Anxious you have chosen the wrong university? 0

I hadn’t chosen the University of Wales Trinity Saint David as my first choice on my UCAS form, I had a chosen another university, which was very exclusive and highly regarded. I had been offered a place, but I was afraid.

The course required 100% exam assessment, all at the end of the year. In contrast, UWTSD Lampeter required mostly coursework, with only some exams, and exam periods twice a year to spread them out.

The exclusive university was very formal, and though I had a love for tradition, I felt like I had to monitor my speech so I sounded higher class, and on an overnight experience day I hid in my room, wanting to avoid the loud students who wanted to go out to various clubs. At Lampeter, I watched films and played cards, and occasionally went out to a bar when I felt comfortable, but I was not judged when I was anxious and wanted to stay inside.

I was worried about not being able to keep up, and being in too big a sea of students if I had questions. At Lampeter I felt comfortable knowing that with a smaller, more intimate community, I was able to talk to staff easily.

I am relieved that, despite the rare honour of receiving a place at a highly regarded and exclusive university, I knew that it was not the right place for me. I needed somewhere else. People had talked to me of Lampeter, of how it had been a great place for Theology for them, and how it was an intimate college community. I’m happy to say I found my home in Lampeter. I hope you know in your heart where is right for you, and I look forward to meeting some new students in Lampeter in the new year.
