1. Shop in the town centre

Lampeter is a busy local commercial centre with a number of independent and charity shops specialising in home furnishings, books, records, arts, craft, clothing, food and drink. Some of these businesses are part of the Lampeter loyalty scheme which offers students discounts in certain establishments.

Lampeter’s farmers’ market is held between 9am and 2pm on High Street on alternate Fridays, offering a variety of fresh, local produce.

Further afield, visit the industrial estate to browse the organic shop and to get cheap stationery.

2.Visit Lampeter Leisure Centre

As well as the Lampeter Campus Sports Centre, Lampeter Leisure Centre also offers a range of facilities, including a swimming pool, sports hall, gym and AstroTurf pitch.

3. Walk around Long Wood

Long Wood Community Woodland boasts 4km of foot paths and 10km of bridleways that are open to the public at all times.

4. Eat and drink in the town centre

Lloyds restaurant is a multi-award winning family run fish and chip shop. The fish and chips are hand prepared on site using the best raw ingredients that can be sourced. Dinner at Lloyds and a walk to the lake is a great way to spend an evening.

Conti’s Café is also family run company and offers award-winning traditional ice cream in a range of a range of exciting flavours. There’s also a vegetarian café at Mulberry Bush Wholefoods, a business that started back in 1974.

Merriment is guaranteed in the Ivy Bush Inn on Friday nights where there is live karaoke, or at a party in the Students’ Union!

5. Visit the Lampeter Museum

The Lampeter Museum, located in the old University Porter’s Lodge, is open on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am and 4pm. The museum celebrates the history of Lampeter town.

6. Enjoy the Lampeter Town Trail

Lampeter’s history is explained in the town heritage trail. It takes you to Lampeter Rugby Club, one of the founder members of the Welsh Rugby Union, and The War memorial, designed by W. Goscombe John and the University. It also explains Lampeter’s connection with the attempted murder of Dylan Thomas in 1945.

7. Have an adventure in the quirky Dolaucothi Gold Mines

Visit the Dolaucothi Gold Mines in Pumsaint, in use from Roman times to the 20th century. There are guided tours of the underground workings and fantastic walks in the beautiful Cothi Valley. Only 15 minutes by car from Lampeter.

8. Discover Cardigan Bay

Lampeter is only a few miles from the wonderful Cardigan Bay coastline with its clean and secluded beaches. A new footpath along the coast has recently opened.

Aberaeron has two popular pebble beaches with soft sand exposed at low tide. Both can be easily reached by car or bus.

9. Walk the Lampeter-Aberaeron footpath

Lampeter is the centre of a network of country walks along footpaths, bridleways or quiet roads. These lead to lakes, picturesque river banks, abandoned hill forts and standing stones. Ceredigion County Council provides information on the Lampeter-Aberaeron footpath (21 miles) along the beautiful Aeron Valley and walks in the Lampeter area to Longwood and Allgoch Iron Age settlement.

10. Cycle around the area

Lampeter is a great place to cycle, with miles of quiet roads. It’s only a short distance from Brechfa Forest mountain bike trails and the Ystwyth Cycle Trail.
